Goat Zodiac Stamps to be Launched in GZ
The stamps celebrating the next year, the Year of the Goat will be officially debut in Guangzhou on January 5, announced by China Post.
The year 2015 is “Yi Wei” year, a combination of the second sign in Heavenly
Stems and the eighth sign in Earthly Branches. The corresponding Chinese zodiac
sign is the goat. The debut of the “Yi Wei Goat” stamp series means a lot to
Guangzhou, as it’s known as the “City of Rams,” and this coincides with the
zodiac sign of 2015. T
In addition, the Year of the Goat is special to China’s postal history. The
first zodiac stamp collection was issued in 1980 to represent the sign of the
monkey. Thus in the sequence of the 12 zodiac signs, the last one is the goat.
So 2015’s goat stamp collection is the final creation of the third round.
The stamp will debut at Huacheng Square in Zhujiang New Town on January 5,
followed by a seven-day zodiac stamp collection exhibition. All stamps of the
entire zodiac series issued in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao will be on
display. Also, “Penny Black,” the world’s first stamp, and several other stamps
that will be first put on display, will be on exhibit.
